bill pearl says they will be long gone. probably as in a short life span and i’m looking forward to see how big they maintain their bodies once the pro endorsements stop.
even eating to maintain size for modern pros looks like torture. it’s like force feeding when you really don’t even want to eat.

  2. godna2000 Says:

    Respect.

  3. StanBennet Says:

@JohnFPoirier Bill’s really that old? Wow!

  4. StanBennet Says:

I disagree with Mr. Pearl. They will be remembered. We’ll look back at this and remember.

  5. gastrongman Says:

“If a man doesnt have enough hormones to produce the body he wants, then maybe he should take up a less strenous sport, like ping pong” quote from legend Steve Reeves about steriods

  6. fjbutch Says:

As a kid, Dave was my hero…no question …

  7. JohnFPoirier Says:

Bill Pearl was born in 1930, makes him 80. Dave draper was born in 1942, makes him 68. There you go!

  8. jrBlondebomber Says:

Dave draper was out the body building scene you idiot when he had a cocaine and alcohol problem. He didnt take cocaine to cut down. Why the fuck would you do that, its called Winny and cutting steroids along with a badass diet. If you think he took cocaine before a comp your a fucking idiot. And I agree with him, though they did roids, they did them right. Today its like lets take as much fucking bullshit along with other drugs like 40 prescriptions to not die. such retarded shit.

  9. slayerromare Says:

@vivacco2 Another fun fact about pearl that i heard in a interview from 2008 or 2009. they asked him how much he weight at the moment. His answer was “About 235-240 lbs” And the interviewer went silent for a few seconds.

  10. ronwelker8 Says:

Dave Draper is a hugely iconic figure in the book AMERICAN HUNKS; THE MUSCULAR MALE BODY IN POPULAR CULTURE 1860-1970 by David L Chapman and Brett Josef Grubisic

  11. ronwelker8 Says:

ditto to everything you say about being closer to death—-Dave Draper himself was at one time addicted to cocaine but cured himself and I am told that professional bodybuilders can take cocaine to help look cut just before a competition

  12. cuchulainn1967 Says:

@jxk2790 THAT ASSUMPTION ABOUT DORIAN YATES IS NOT QUITE CORRECT ! THE USE OF HGH STARTED MUCH EARLIER , JUST LOOK AT THE ELONGATED ELBOWS AND THE WIDENED JAW OF CHRIS DICKERSON ( MR . OLYMPIA 1982 ) !!!

  13. jdgera Says:

The fact is these guys did take dianabol. Not like all the gear they are on today but they still were not natural. They still looked better than anyone around today, with the achievable body.

  14. ronwelker8 Says:

we should all look this good at dave’s age……i still wish hollywood had given him more television and movie roles than they did but we all remember his guest spots on the monkees and the beverly hillbillies and the film DON’T MAKE WAVES..THE BLOND BOMBER SHOULD HAVE BEATEN ARNOLD FOR THE MR. OLYMPIA AT LEAST ONCE THE WAY SERGIO OLIVA DID

  15. k4jdp Says:

Mike Mattarazzo said once in a magazine, “We’re never closer to death than we are when we’re on stage.” Meaning at the Mr. Olympia level it’s no longer about bodybuilding for health, it’s about bodybuilding for profit and sadly many die prematurely because of the drug abuse involved. A life is priceless.

  16. menthol5 Says:

That’s at World Gym in Santa Cruz Dave is a really amazing person. I am proud to know him

  17. rorytek Says:

Draper doesn’t look bad for his age, although I am not sure how old he is…He was always an impressive guy and was an inspiration to me as a bodybuilder back in the early 70′s. He was the proverbial “Goldenboy” of bodybuilding in the 60′s and he landed roles on such TV shows as the “Beverly Hillbilly’s (as Mr. Universe) as a result.
I understood however, that Dave Draper had run on some hard times, and if true, good to see he is back, and well.

  18. StanBennet Says:

Sad thing is, they know what they’re doing to themselves. And the endorsement contracts that they are getting keeps them going until they realize that the money they are getting will be going toward a kidney transplant or some other health issue that scares them.

  19. StanBennet Says:

I’d like to see these guys be brought in by high schools to have talks with kids.

  20. StanBennet Says:

I can see your point on natural bodybuilding seeming pointless and un-interesting. But all the ones I know do it for their health. If they compete, it’s to showcase their efforts or give them a goal to keep themselves on track.

  21. jxk2790 Says:

if only Jay Cutler, Ronnie Coleman, Victor martinez, Dexter jackson, Branch Warren, Dennis Wolf, Markus Ruhl, Johnnie jackson, and much much more could see this video…. :) and to think that this whole human growth hormone(hgh)/”massive physiques” craze started with one of the most iconic men in bodybuilding history or i should say most iconic man in the history Mr Olympia….Dorian Yates. such a shame…

  22. Carnivalley Says:

Bill pearl tried steroids, he did half a cycle under gp supervision, then stopped taking because he didn’t like the effect. i don’t know about Dave Draper, but these guys got impressive physiques without steroids, i wish bodybuilding was like that now, instead of mass monsters everywhere

  23. 123jozef Says:

    3:13 says it all.

“Long gone and totally forgotten… ”

Extreme bodybuilding perpetuates just like drug use and alcohol. Bigger and bigger and bigger, but at what cost?

The cost is too high for anyone to comprehend. Here today, gone tomorrow. At the same time, once you have seen the monsters, natural bodybuilding seems completely pointless and un-interesting.

    Irony, I suppose.

  24. myrashiswide Says:

But then again, who didnt use steroids in Mr Olympia and Mr Universe? It was a massive break through and these “wonder injections” were getting (potentially) double the results, with the same effort of training that the athletes were originally doing.

We all now understand there negative effects and Dave talks about them openly. He doesnt recommend them to anyone.

  25. myrashiswide Says:

I’m not sure about Bill, but Dave had been training for 10 years before steroids came onto the bodybuilding scene. He used them for a while under supervision of his GP. He said that he noticed a difference in his muscularity and muscle seperation, but when he came off them he serious noticed a loss of improvement.
